Love

What is love? The Webster’s Dictionary defines love, “as a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties; attraction based on sexual desire; affection and tenderness felt by lovers; warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion; object of attachment, devotion, or admiration; a beloved person; unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another.” WOW! That is one of the longest definitions I have ever read but it’s so true. Love is not just saying you love someone but also doing for that person.

Of course, there are different types of love…love you have for your family, love you have for your significant other, and love you have for others around you. Let’s talk about the love you have for your family for a minute. You should always love your family with all your heart because when there is no one else around, you will always have your family. Even though you may not get along with all your family members, still love them and embrace them. You will always have some type of differences within the family but love one another. It’s funny that I say that because my sister and I rarely see eye to eye and we have had our share of fights and disagreements but through all of that we still love each other.

Now, let’s discuss love you have for your significant other. *Sigh*…This is a deep subject and will take a long time to explain all the parts of this type of love. To say you love a person and you can’t see yourself being with anyone else is a wonderful thing. You start off as friends and day by day your love grows more and more for that person until it’s like the only thing you can think about. You see their face in your dreams at night and you long to be with them 24/7. Never rush love because in time it may start to get old and stale just like bread. Build your relationship on a foundation of friendship. Take the time to get to know that person inside and out and they should do the same. Don’t bring things that happened in your past relationships into your new one. Nobody likes to be with a person who brings issues into a relationship. Leave the past in the past because that’s exactly what it is…THE PAST.

Don’t let others interfere in your relationship because some people who you think want the best for you actually don’t want to see you happy. Sounds crazy but it’s true. Once all that preliminary stuff is out of the way, you should have the best relationship in the world. Be patient because loves takes time to grow and flourish. Until next time…be good to yourself and others.

Love,

Ms. Ivy
